Simply put: Does feeling hungry and wanting to eat food require scientific validation? TCM healing is an innate, rigorous physiological reality—just like eating when hungry and drinking when thirsty!
1. Is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) scientific?
Answer:
When you experience hunger, do you genuinely pause to research whether it is the hunger center of the hypothalamus stimulating the vagus nerve or the parasympathetic nervous system to transmit signals to your stomach? Do you analyze how pepsin and gastrin trigger gastric wall contractions before you decide to seek food?
Seeking treatment from an orthodox TCM physician is just as straightforward and grounded in self-evident reality. Does TCM truly require modern "scientific research" to be validated as effective?
When you are hungry, you eat food; when you are thirsty, you drink water. Would you ever gorge on solid food when dehydrated, or chug water to satisfy starvation? These primal, living physiological reactions require zero scientific consensus to support them. Why, then, must the clinical reality of TCM be forced to rely on modern scientific frameworks for permission to exist?
At its core, TCM is a practical discipline: when you fall ill, you consult a qualified physician who reads your pulse and delivers targeted, full-strength clinical results. Whether a formula has been subjected to laboratory animal testing is entirely beside the point. What truly matters is what your mind chooses to believe—trusting in a time-tested, life-respecting medical technique that delivers real recovery.
Is Pulse Diagnosis Absolute in TCM?
Strictly speaking: Without palpation (pulse diagnosis), it is absolutely impossible!
The absolute iron law: Unless a patient physically lacks a detectable pulse due to rare medical conditions, out of the four diagnostic methods (inspection, auscultation/olfaction, inquiry, palpation), one might be streamlined under specific contexts, but pulse diagnosis can never be skipped.
Comprehensive interpretation is key: The pulse is the internal weather vane of the body (e.g., a floating, taut, and tight pulse at the right Cun position during a cold). Without pulse palpation, identifying complex pathogenesis is impossible, reducing practice to mere guesswork.
(Physician. Yeh's Technical Warning):
If you encounter a practitioner who brazenly claims that "the pulse is unreliable" or "TCM treatment does not require pulse diagnosis," consider yourself warned—wish yourself luck and walk away immediately!
What exactly is pulse-taking (Pulse Diagnosis)?
Simply put, pulse-taking is when a physician uses three fingers to palpate the radial arteries on both of the patient's wrists.
🩺 真实临床案例(A Real Clinical Case):
22. What exactly is pulse-taking (Pulse Diagnosis)?
Answer:
Pulse diagnosis is a clinical technique where the physician uses three fingers to palpate the radial arteries on both of the patient's wrists. By analyzing the shape, rate, position, and strength of the pulse, the physician can precisely diagnose the true underlying cause of the patient’s illness.
In TCM, the culprits behind a patient's discomfort encompass not only the factors identified through Western medical biochemical tests, but also the invasions of the Six Excesses (Wind, Cold, Summer-Heat, Dampness, Dryness, Fire/Heat), the deficiencies or excesses of Yin, Yang, Qi, and Blood, as well as trauma, phlegm, fluid retention (fluid toxicity), parasites, toxins, and blood stasis.
A Real Clinical Case:
Recently, a child presented at our clinic who had been vomiting for months whenever they drank water or ate food. Western medicine had conducted extensive mechanical scans and biochemical tests but could not find any cause.
Upon palpating the child's pulse, I detected a floating-to-deep, taut, and moderate pulse (Zhong Chen, Xian, Huan) at the right Guan position. In orthodox medical logic, this specific pulse directly indicates Qi stagnation in the Spleen and Stomach, internal cold, and fluid retention (water-drink pathogen). Based on this precise diagnosis, targeted herbs were prescribed, and the child's condition has since been steadily improving.
However, if you cross paths with an incompetent TCM practitioner who lacks the skill to read a pulse—and can only repeatedly interrogate you with questions like, "What disease do you have?" "What is wrong with you?" or continuously probe into what Western medical diagnosis you received—they are merely masking their medical incompetence. In that case, you can only wish yourself luck!
Answer: Yes. According to the four diagnostic methods of TCM (inspection, auscultation-olfaction, inquiry, and palpation), anyone who is eligible to take Western medicine can take Chinese medicine.
Answer: As long as you can eat Western medicine according to the four diagnoses of Chinese medicine, you can eat Chinese medicine. Besides, there is no reason why babies and children can take Western medicine, but they can't take Chinese medicine.
Answer: Yes. According to the four diagnostic methods of TCM (inspection, auscultation-olfaction, inquiry, and palpation), anyone who is eligible to take Western medicine can take Chinese medicine.
Answer: Yes, it can be very helpful. In fact, the earlier TCM is introduced into the treatment plan, the better the overall results. However, this must be personally evaluated and monitored by a professional practitioner based on the patient's unique body constitution and current condition.
Answer: Porcupine Dates fall under the category of herbs that "clear heat and detoxify." If you have a cold-natured constitution, taking Porcupine Dates will not only fail to cure the disease but will actually aggravate your condition.
Supplementary Notes: Much of the therapeutic efficacy claimed for Porcupine Dates is merely commercial hype, driven particularly by self-proclaimed herbalists and naturopathic masters. Without considering the patient’s unique constitution or pulse presentation, they indiscriminately prescribe Porcupine Dates the moment they hear the word "cancer." If things were that simple, would Chinese medicine still need the Four Diagnostic Methods? Would Western medicine still need chemotherapy? To put it bluntly, it all comes down to human nature: doctors rack their brains trying to cure diseases, while merchants rack their brains trying to make money. That is simply the nature of the game.
Answer: As long as it is diagnosed and prescribed by a professional practitioner, traditional Chinese medicine can absolutely be taken during pregnancy. After all, didn't ancients thousands of years ago rely on Chinese medicine for treatment when they were pregnant? Back then, Western medicine did not even exist. Conditions such as morning sickness, gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, and pregnancy-associated infections can all be treated with traditional Chinese medicine. Physician Yeh very frequently treats patients with infertility, and many have successfully conceived. They took Chinese medicine both before and after getting pregnant without experiencing any discomfort.
Answer: As long as it is a traditional Chinese medicine approved by the Singapore government's HAS review, it is 100% free of any Western medicine ingredients. However, local Western medicine often views traditional Chinese medicine with unfriendly and biased attitudes. When seeking clinical treatment, patients often hear Western medicine say that traditional Chinese medicine contains steroids and cannot be taken, causing patients to be at a loss. This issue needs to be explained seriously.
A、 It is completely illegal to artificially add scientific Chinese medicine to it locally, so there is no scientific Chinese medicine containing steroids (nor any Western medicine ingredients).
B、 Natural ingredients refer to the fact that traditional Chinese medicine itself contains natural steroids, which do exist. However, when taking such traditional Chinese medicine, a considerable daily dose is required to cause harm to the human body. If diagnosed by a familiar pulse medicine practitioner, it is safe to use traditional Chinese medicine with confidence.
Answer: It depends entirely on whether it is necessary. If it is unnecessary, taking it for even a single week is incorrect. However, if there is a genuine medical need and it is taken under the guidance of a skilled practitioner, it is actually very common to use Chinese medicine long-term for several years. My real concern lies with unqualified practitioners who ignore the patient's specific symptoms and constitution—prescribing Chuanxiong Cha Diao San the moment they hear "headache," Xiao Chai Hu Tang for alternating chills and fever, Liu Wei Di Huang Wan for diabetes, or Xiao Feng San for hives and urticaria. When doctors rely blindly on these rigid, one-size-fits-all formulas, it is pure luck if the patient gets cured at all.
When patients ask, "Is it true that all medicines are one-third poison (是藥三分毒)?" our response is always: Whether it is medicine or food, anything in excess can be toxic. The key lies in accurate diagnosis and understanding the "specific properties" of what you consume.1. Even the Best Foods Can Be Toxic in Excess 🍒Many people believe that medicine is naturally toxic, while food is completely harmless.
2. What are the "Specific Properties" (偏性) of TCM? ⚖️The reason Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can cure diseases lies precisely in the "specific properties and tendencies" (偏性 - pián xìng) of the medicinal herbs.
3. A Double-Edged Sword: The Importance of Expert Diagnosis 🥕The traditional proverb "all medicines are part poison" is a reminder that safety depends entirely on the physician’s mastery of pulse diagnosis and pathogenesis.
4. Can You Take TCM Long-Term? 💊
Many patients take Western medications (such as blood pressure or blood sugar drugs) for a lifetime without hesitation, yet they worry about taking TCM long-term.
14. How Exactly Should We Practice TCM Wellness and Health Preservation?
" our response is: The fundamental prerequisite for health preservation is to "understand your own constitution" and "know the properties of the food and herbs you consume." Cultivating a blind wellness routine without this knowledge is worse than doing nothing; in such cases, cultivating your mind and temperament is far more beneficial.
1. The Biggest Mistake in Modern Wellness: Blind Following 🙅♂️
Many people today approach wellness in a disorganized way—blindly consuming whatever is trendy without understanding two critical elements:
* They do not understand their own body constitution (what their body lacks or cannot tolerate).
* They do not understand the medicinal nature of food (whether what they eat is inherently cooling, warming, drying, or dampening).
2. The Real Price of Misguided Wellness ⚠️
When you head in the wrong direction, the more you try to preserve your health, the more damage you may cause:
* Scenario A (Apple for a Weak Spleen): Suppose you have a Spleen-deficiency (cold) constitution, but you follow the slogan "an apple a day." Over time, the cooling nature of apples will inevitably worsen your Spleen deficiency, leading to a poor appetite, low energy, and a weakened immune system.
* Scenario B (Barley Water for Low Stomach Fluids): If you are someone who lacks stomach fluids (Yin deficiency), yet you drink dampness-draining barley (Job's tears) water every day. Over time, this over-diuretic habit will dry out your digestive tract, invariably leading to severe constipation.
3. The Ultimate Guide to Wellness: Know Yourself and Cultivate the Mind 🧠
True TCM health preservation requires a strategic approach:
* Know Yourself: Consult a professional TCM physician to accurately identify your specific body constitution.
* Know What You Consume: Understand the temperature and flavor profile (hot, warm, cool, cold) of your daily food and herbs, and consume them accordingly.
* The Highest Form of Wellness: If you do not yet know your constitution, instead of blindly experimenting with supplements, it is far better to "cultivate your temperament and mind." Maintaining emotional balance, quality sleep, and peace of mind is the safest and most effective form of self-care.
When patients wonder whether they should seek TCM or Western medical treatment, our answer is: Broadly speaking, TCM can treat and manage almost any form of illness. The scope of TCM is incredibly vast, spanning internal medicine, gynecology, dermatology, and chronic or autoimmune conditions, while Western medicine excels in acute trauma and emergency care.
1. Conditions Routinely Treated at Our Clinic
At Bosong TCM Clinic, we successfully consult and treat a diverse range of conditions on a daily basis:
• Respiratory & Common Illnesses: Colds, fevers, coughs, chronic pharyngitis.
• Dermatology & Immunology: Eczema, urticaria (hives), chickenpox, hand-foot-mouth disease, psoriasis, acne, herpes zoster (shingles), and post-herpetic neuralgia.
• Digestive & Urinary Systems: Acute/chronic gastritis, gastroptosis (sagging stomach), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney stones, gallstones, chronic cholecystitis.
• Gynecology: Irregular menstruation, endometriosis, and vaginal yeast/fungal infections (where Western medicine often struggles to prevent recurrence, TCM yields highly effective, lasting results).
• ENT & Chronic Conditions: Conjunctivitis (pink eye), otitis media (ear infection), periodontal (gum) disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), Hepatitis B.
• Autoimmune & Complex Disorders: Bedwetting (enuresis), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Ankylosing Spondylitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Dengue Fever.
2. The Strengths of Western Medicine: Acute Trauma & Emergency
While TCM is highly versatile, we believe in integrative medical cooperation. For the following emergency situations, patients should immediately seek Western medical emergency services:
• Severe acute infections and inflammation
• Major trauma (e.g., gunshot wounds, car accidents)
• Venomous snakebites
16. When is it Appropriate to Drink Cooling Tea (Herbal Tea)?
When the weather gets hot or when feeling "heated," many people instinctively grab a cup of herbal cooling tea. However, the expert advice from a TCM physician is: Without a proper diagnosis from a registered TCM practitioner, you should not drink any type of cooling tea blindly.
1. Where is the "Heat" Located in Your Body?
In TCM, "heat" or "inflammation" is not a single concept. Heat can manifest in completely different organs, each requiring distinct herbs:
• In the Lungs (causing cough with yellow phlegm) | In the Spleen & Stomach (causing halitosis and excessive thirst)
• In the Heart (causing a red tongue-tip and insomnia) | In the Small/Large Intestine (causing constipation or dark, painful urination)
• In the Liver (causing bloodshot eyes and irritability)
2. "Excess Heat" vs. "Deficiency Heat" ⚖️
Furthermore, TCM distinguishes between Excess Heat (true inflammation/fire) and Deficiency Heat (false fire caused by a lack of Yin fluids).
• The Danger of Self-Medicating: Because different types of heat require entirely different medicinal formulas, the majority of people who blindly drink standard cooling teas end up taking the wrong medicine. Instead of clearing the heat, they inadvertently damage their Spleen and Stomach Yang, making their body weaker over time.
Seeing their children grow slowly, many parents rush to buy Tienchi (三七) or American Ginseng (泡参) based on hearsay to boost growth. A TCM physician’s solemn warning is: Absolutely not. Administering Tienchi or American Ginseng to a developing child without a proper TCM diagnosis is entirely incorrect.
1. The Risks of Blind Supplementation
Stunted or delayed growth in children can stem from various underlying root causes in TCM. It cannot be resolved by a "one-size-fits-all" supplement:
• Spleen-Stomach Qi or Yang Deficiency: The child has poor digestion and nutrient absorption, looking pale and thin. In this scenario, Dried Ginger (干姜) and Codonopsis (党参) should be used to warm and stimulate the digestive system, rather than using cooling herbs like American Ginseng.
• Kidney Qi / Yang / Yin Deficiency: A deficiency in先天 (congenital) Kidney energy directly impacts bone development.
• Liver Blood Deficiency: The tendons and bones fail to receive adequate nourishment.
2. Honest Advice for Parents
Every child’s constitution is unique. To truly support your child’s growth, you must identify the root cause and treat it accurately. Do not blindly follow trends or herbal fads, as inappropriate supplementation can backfire and disrupt your child's natural golden window of growth.
Simply put, because their root cause lies in the "Lung, Spleen, and Stomach"! The "External Pathogenic Remnants" left behind by an incompletely cured cold are the ultimate culprits triggering both skin and nasal allergies.
(Dr. Yeh's Technical Reminder):
18. Why do eczema and nasal allergies (allergic rhinitis) frequently occur together?
Answer:
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we say that "Wind is the leader of all diseases." In clinical reality, it is exceptionally common for conditions like eczema and nasal allergies to develop as long-term complications or sequelae of a common cold that was never thoroughly cured in the first place.
First, symptom suppression leaves behind "External Pathogenic Remnants."
When a patient takes Western medication immediately upon catching a cold, their superficial symptoms are quickly suppressed and relieved. However, the underlying pathogens—whether they are Wind-Cold, Dryness, or Dampness—are never truly driven out of the body. Over time, these residual external pathogens become stagnant and linger deep within the internal systems, specifically target the Lung system, Spleen, and Stomach.
Second, the internal connection between the Lung, Spleen, and Skin.
Orthodox TCM operates on a rigorous systemic logic where the body's systems are inextricably linked:
• The Domain of the Lung: TCM recognizes that the skin and hair (the external barrier) and the nasal system (nose, bronchi) are completely governed by the Lung system. When pathogenetic remnants are trapped in the Lungs, it manifests externally as eczema on the skin and hypersensitivity in the nasal passages.
• The Domain of the Spleen and Stomach: The muscles and metabolic transport are governed by the Spleen and Stomach. When the digestive and absorptive capacities of the Spleen and Stomach are compromised by lingering pathogens, it triggers a mechanism known conceptually as "Spleen Earth failing to nurture Lung Metal." Consequently, the body's immune defenses collapse, leaving it utterly incapable of eradicating external bacteria or viruses.
Dr. Yeh’s Clinical Takeaway:
While abstract concepts like the Five Elements explain the relationship between "Earth and Metal," true medicine must never rely on speculative imagination. In our clinic, we rely strictly on objective pulse diagnosis to examine whether the pulse signs at the Lung and Spleen positions present actual pathological abnormalities. Only by reading the pulse accurately can we identify the exact nature of the lingering pathogen, prescribe heavily-dosed formulas, and completely purge the hidden toxins from your system to cure both skin and nasal ailments at their root.

While ingredients like ginger, cinnamon, star anise, and cilantro are indeed herbs, their medicinal potencies are exceptionally mild and their daily dietary dosages are extremely low, making them suitable only for patient, long-term daily conditioning.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a rigorous clinical discipline. When facing acute or severe conditions, a patient must undergo a precise comprehensive interpretation of complexion and pulse signs by a TCM physician, using maximum clinical strength (such as our heavy, fully-dosed professional prescriptions administered four times a day) to strike the root of the illness directly. Conversely, these shared ingredients are strictly for daily conditioning—其疗效需要您付出长期的耐心,坚持服用方能见到改变 (their therapeutic efficacy requires your long-term patience and persistent consumption before any change can be seen).

(Fevers with Acute, Severe Manifestations)
(Common Exogenous Fever)
Whether a fever is caused by a bacterial or viral infection, both Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are fundamentally capable of treating it.
There is absolutely no such thing as "you must take Western medicine for a fever before coming to TCM." Many parents wish to avoid giving their children Western medication when they run a fever. However, when they visit certain clinics, they encounter "fake" TCM practitioners who actually tell them, "Go see a Western doctor first; taking Western medicine is faster." The medical logic of these practitioners is utterly bizarre!
TCM is a rigorous clinical discipline. The very first step in managing a fever is to clarify whether it is a common exogenous fever or a dangerous, high-risk presentation involving severe complications:
🟥 A. Fevers with Acute, Severe Manifestations
Some fevers present with systemic toxic symptoms, where the body temperature can spike rapidly from 37–38°C to 40°C within just a few hours. If a fever is accompanied by any of the following dangerous signs, simply taking fever reducers is completely useless, and immediate medical intervention is required:
• Fever ➕ Ear pain (suspected otitis media)
• Fever ➕ Severe sore throat (suspected acute pharyngitis)
• Fever ➕ Skin rashes (indicative of certain infectious diseases)
• Fever ➕ Systemic edema (generalized swelling)
• Fever ➕ Difficulty breathing and bright red lips (suspected pneumonia)
🟩 B. Common Exogenous Fever
While the body temperature is elevated, this type of fever does not present with the severe systemic toxic symptoms mentioned above. Oftentimes, a common exogenous fever can be resolved simply by taking a warm bath to induce sweating. This aligns perfectly with what the older generation used to say: "Once you sweat it out, you’ll recover."
Are there many different schools/lineages of pulse-taking?
Simply put, yes. Pulse-taking is just like practicing martial arts—each school has its own lineage, but "knowing how to use a knife" is the bare minimum to be a chef!
(Physician’s Blunt Truth):
23. Are there many different schools or lineages of pulse-taking among TCM physicians?
Answer:
Pulse diagnosis is very much like practicing martial arts. Just as martial arts encompass various disciplines—such as Baguazhang, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, Judo, Karate, and Jujitsu—Traditional Chinese Medicine also boasts numerous historical lineages and schools. However, no matter how many schools exist, mastering pulse diagnosis is an absolute, non-negotiable prerequisite.
If you counter a TCM practitioner who claims they do not need to take a pulse, it is as utterly absurd as:
• A head chef claiming they can prepare a grand imperial feast without ever using a knife.
• A hair stylist bragging about their superior skills, claiming they can create a stunning haircut without using scissors.
Do you honestly think that is possible?
"In this profession, we do not fear outright villains; we fear the hypocrites who pretend to be masters." Those pseudo-practitioners who cannot even read a pulse, yet sit in clinics prescribing herbs based entirely on speculative imagination, are the exact hypocrites ruining the integrity of medicine.
24. Do I need to take Baifeng Pills or Siwu Decoction after my period?
Answer:
There are two critical medical errors that must be debunked regarding this question:
First, having a pale complexion after your period does not automatically mean you suffer from Blood Deficiency.
Many people blindly assume that pale lower eyelids or pale lips are definitive signs of Blood Deficiency, justifying the use of blood-tonifying formulas like Siwu Decoction, Bazhen Decoction, or Baifeng Pills. This is a dangerous misconception. Qi Deficiency can cause pale eyelids and lips; Yang Deficiency can cause the exact same presentation. Whether you truly have Blood Deficiency can only be determined through a comprehensive diagnostic assessment by a professional TCM physician. These herbal formulas must never be taken arbitrarily.
Second, these formulas are fixed recipes, but patients are living, dynamic individuals.
A composite formula (Fu Fang) is a prescription composed of multiple individual single herbs. For instance, Siwu Decoction consists of: Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui) 3 qian, Radix Paeoniae Alba (Baishao) 3 qian, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata (Shoudi) 5 qian, and Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong) 3 qian. The ratios in these pre-made formulas are completely static. How can a rigid, pre-fixed formula adapt to the fluctuating pulse signs and symptoms of a living patient?
A Real Clinical Case:
Suppose a female patient presents after her period with body feverishness, a burning sensation during urination, and oral ulcers.
Upon palpating her pulse, I detect:
• A floating, large, and forceful pulse at the left Cun position ➡️ Excessive Heart Fire
• A floating-to-deep and choppy pulse at the left Guan position ➡️ Blood Stasis in the Liver
• A floating-to-deep, large, and slippery pulse at the right Guan position ➡️ Stomach Heat
• A floating, large, and rapid pulse at the right Chi position ➡️ Heat in the Lower Jiao
This objective pulse profile clearly demonstrates that the patient has intense heat trapped in her Heart, Stomach, and Lower Jiao, alongside blood stasis in the Liver. When I ask her, "Did you have excessive blood clots and a very scanty flow during this period?" the diagnostic deduction matches her reality perfectly.
In this scenario, even though her period has just ended, she must absolutely NOT take Siwu Decoction. The patient already has a raging pathogenetic fire inside her body. Administering pungent, warm, and highly tonifying formulas like Siwu Decoction at this moment is undoubtedly adding fuel to the fire.
How long does it take to recover when taking TCM for illness or body conditioning?
Simply put, it depends on the condition! Acute and severe illnesses can resolve incredibly fast ("cured before the cup is set down"), while chronic conditioning demands long-term patience.
25. How long does it take to recover when taking TCM for illness or body conditioning?
Answer:
The timeline for recovery depends entirely on the nature and severity of the patient's condition. There is no single, fixed duration for medical treatment.
First, for acute and severe conditions, genuine TCM is remarkably fast.
There is a widespread, stubborn misconception that TCM is exclusively for slow, long-term conditioning and that acute illnesses must be treated by Western medicine. This is entirely false. When an orthodox physician performs a precise, objective pulse and complexion diagnosis (such as reading a floating, taut, and tight pulse for an acute cold), and deploys a full clinical strength formula (administered four times a day with maximum dosage), acute symptoms can be relieved within hours or days. Ancient texts describe exceptional clinical efficacy as "fu bei er yu"—meaning the illness is resolved before the patient can even set the empty medicine cup back down.
Second, for chronic ailments and systemic conditioning, unwavering patience is mandatory.
If your discomfort is the result of years or decades of organ disharmony, deep-seated pathogenetic retention, or severe Qi and blood depletion, it cannot be cured overnight. Just as we discussed with the mild nature of "Medicine and Food Homology" ingredients, repairing deep, long-term bodily damage requires regular, steady medical intervention. You must commit to a structured treatment plan with absolute patience to fundamentally rebuild your constitution.

(Dr. Yeh's Technical Warning):
Unfortuanately diagnosed with cancer, should I seek Western chemotherapy or Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Answer:
When facing a critical diagnosis like cancer, the most scientifically grounded and clinically effective path is not to pit Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine against each other, but rather to embrace a highly coordinated, integrated Sino-Western medical approach.
First, the undeniable strength of Western medicine lies in its direct, aggressive eradication of tumor cells.
Cancer is an aggressive, rapidly progressing malignancy. Western medicine’s modalities—including surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy—are the most direct and potent biochemical and physical weapons available to quickly shrink tumors and debulk high tumor loads. When immediate intervention is required to save a life, these methods are absolutely critical.
Second, the indispensable strength of orthodox TCM lies in the comprehensive interpretation of complexion and pulse signs to fortify vital energy (Zheng Qi) and mitigate toxicity.
Chemotherapy is notoriously double-edged; while it destroys cancer cells, it severely ravages the body’s healthy cells and immune system. This is precisely where genuine TCM acts as a powerful restorative anchor.
• Through rigorous pulse diagnosis, we determine the exact constitutional depletion of your Yin, Yang, Qi, and Blood, alongside the presence of latent phlegm-nodulation, blood stasis, or fluid toxicity.
• By deploying tailored clinical prescriptions, we deliver targeted medical support across different oncological stages:
• During Chemotherapy: TCM significantly alleviates severe side effects such as intractable nausea, vomiting, alopecia, bone marrow suppression (leukopenia), and profound fatigue, giving your body the physical resilience required to successfully complete the Western medical oncology regimen.
• Post-Surgery & Post-Chemotherapy: TCM systematically regulates chronically dysfunctional internal organs, altering the cellular "soil" (internal environments of deep cold-dampness, Qi stagnation, and blood stasis) that allowed the cancer to grow in the first place, thereby minimizing the risks of recurrence and metastasis.
Dr. Yeh’s Clinical Warning:
Patients must strictly avoid falling into two dangerous, unscientific extremes:
1. Refusing Western medicine entirely out of panic to chase unverified folk remedies or pseudo-practitioners who cannot even read a pulse but peddle speculative metaphysical cures. This fatally squanders the optimal window for life-saving surgery or chemotherapy.
2. Relying solely on aggressive chemotherapy while ignoring the complete collapse of the body's internal ecology. When vital energy and blood are completely depleted and the immune system fails entirely, Western oncologists will have no choice but to stop treatment due to physical frailty.
The Bottom Line:
Cancer is a battle of life and death. An informed patient utilizes the sharp scalpel and targeted weapons of Western medicine to strike down the enemy, while concurrently relying on an orthodox TCM physician to take the pulse, differentiate the pattern, and deploy appropriate formulas to defend vital energy and clear internal stasis. This dual-engine approach represents true, life-respecting technical healthcare.
TCM is a practical technical discipline based on strict, objective clinical evidence, not an imaginative academic pursuit built on unfathomable mysticism. Looking at how modern science is just beginning to map the link between dormant viruses and long-term degeneration, I frequently state: In terms of clinical foresight and diagnostic philosophy, orthodox TCM stands at least 500 years ahead of contemporary modern medicine.
What are the essential mindsets to have when seeking TCM treatment?
Simply put, TCM physicians are not miracle workers! A disease built over 5 or 10 years cannot vanish in a single session. Stop chasing hyped-up celebrity doctors—look for a clinically precise master instead!
What are the essential mindsets one must adopt when seeking Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Answer:
First and foremost, you must recognize that a TCM physician is a medical practitioner, not a miracle worker. It is entirely illogical to expect an illness that has actively accumulated over 5 or 10 years to be instantly cured in just one or two consultations.
First, respect the natural timeline of deep-seated disease pathogenesis.
In clinical reality, many patients present only after their disease duration has been severely drawn out. Some have progressed into deep, advanced stages (Bing Ru Gao Huang), while others have engaged in blind, chaotic self-medication (Ji Bing Luan Tou Yi), mutating their original symptoms into complex, drug-induced medical complications (Huai Bing). Yet, the moment they sit across from a TCM physician, they demand immediate, overnight results. If the symptom does not vanish instantly, they reflexively slander the practitioner or the entire discipline of TCM as ineffective, only to storm off and continue their endless loop of shopping around for a "famous doctor."
Second, understand the stark difference between a "famous doctor" (Ming Yi - 名医) and an "enlightened master" (Ming Yi - 明医).
A famous celebrity doctor is incredibly easy to find nowadays—just open a newspaper, scroll through YouTube, or watch mainstream television programs; they are everywhere under heavy marketing banners. However, commercial fame does not equate to clinical efficacy.
What a patient truly needs is an "Enlightened Doctor" (明医)—meaning a physician who is medically clear, technically precise, and profoundly capable. A true master does not sell prepaid packages, nor do they shield clinical incompetence behind elusive metaphysical jargon. They rely entirely on rigorous clinical skills, performing an objective comprehensive interpretation of complexion and pulse signs to prescribe heavily-dosed, full-strength herbs that strike the root of your illness.

Simply put, it’s not that the prescription stopped working; your body just changed its military strategy! When a new pathogen invades, your immune system puts the chronic skin disease on hold to fight the immediate threat.
30. Why do skin diseases like eczema, dry psoriasis, or plaque psoriasis suddenly worsen or flare up right when they seem to be improving?
Answer:
When chronic skin conditions abruptly deteriorate during treatment, it is rarely a failure of the herbal formula. Instead, it is usually triggered by two specific clinical catalysts that alter the body's internal state:
First, hormonal fluctuations during the female menstrual cycle.
In many female patients undergoing skin therapies, the onset of menstruation introduces intense hormonal shifts. These biochemical changes frequently cause a temporary, cyclical flare-up of chronic skin presentations.
Second, an acute cold or infection (The invasion of external pathogens).
In everyday practice, it is highly common for a patient to unexpectedly catch a cold while their skin is healing. Ordinarily, your immune system (Zheng Qi) is actively deployed at the surface to repair the damaged skin. However, the moment an external pathogen breaches the body, your defensive network automatically shifts its strategic priority. It temporarily shelves the chronic skin issue to concentrate 100% of its military force on eradicating the acute, immediate threat.
Dr. Yeh’s Clinical Strategy: Distinguishing the Primary Enemy from the Secondary Threat
Prescribing orthodox medicine is a highly rigorous art of clinical warfare. This exact strategic logic was laid down thousands of years ago in the TCM medical classic, Jinqui Yaolue:
📜 The Medical Principle:
"When a patient with a chronic, deep-rooted illness (Gu Ji) contracts an acute, sudden disease (Zu Bi), one must first treat the acute disease, and subsequently return to treat the chronic illness."
Just as in military warfare, a general must distinguish between the primary enemy and the secondary threat. TCM prescribing follows this identical tactical law. If your skin condition suddenly acts up because you caught a cold, your body is simply reallocation its defensive troops. Do not panic or assume the medicine has failed; a qualified physician will adjust the prescription to clear the acute pathogen first before resuming your chronic skin protocol.
Simply put: Absolutely false! Taking herbs blindly or encountering an incompetent practitioner is what damages the liver. Orthodox TCM, through precise pattern differentiation, can actually restore elevated liver enzymes back to normal!
31. Western medicine states that if your liver enzymes (SGOP/AST, SGPT/ALT) are too high, you must not take Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbs. How do you respond?
Answer:
This is a severe medical misconception. In everyday clinical reality, numerous patients present with dangerously elevated liver enzymes; yet, after undergoing meticulous diagnosis via the four methods (inspection, auscultation/olfaction, inquiry, palpation) and receiving tailored herbal formulations at our clinic, their liver indices return completely to normal. If TCM herbs were inherently hepatotoxic, how could one possibly explain these consistently successful clinical reversals?
The root of the issue lies not in the medicine, but in arbitrary self-medication and clinical incompetence.
First, practicing medicine without pattern differentiation is a fundamental inversion of order.
If a patient consumes Chinese herbs without the rigorous guidance of a qualified physician's diagnostic cross-referencing, or if they cross paths with an incompetent practitioner who cannot even read a pulse and relies entirely on speculative imagination, chaotic herbal prescribing will inevitably induce abnormal liver or kidney functions.
• This is as utterly absurd as drinking gallons of water when you are starving, or stuffing yourself with solid food when you are severely dehydrated. It completely confuses the cause and effect.
Dr. Yeh’s Clinical Verdict:
When unregulated herbal consumption leads to elevated chemical indices, the fault lies squarely on human ignorance and administrative incompetence, not on the therapeutic capacity of the medicine itself. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a highly precise, evidence-based clinical discipline; when deployed through genuine technical mastery and precise pulse diagnostics, it is a powerful tool to restore hepatic balance, not destroy it.

A、Nasal sensitivity (including sinusitis) not only affects breathing, but also affects a child's learning spirit over time. Inflammation of the nose can obstruct air from reaching the lungs and indirectly affect the brain's oxygen supply, causing dizziness and poor mental health every day. Learning and memory are greatly reduced. The question is, why does nasal sensitivity (sinusitis) occur? Can nasal sensitivity be cured?
Firstly, it is necessary to understand how nasal sensitivity comes about and prevent it. Generally, colds and illnesses are caused by cold, dampness, dryness, and heat. However, taking Western medicine can completely eliminate or transform the symptoms of these colds. Although the symptoms disappear, the underlying causes (such as cold, dampness, dryness, and heat) will not disappear after taking Western medicine. These cold, dampness, dryness, and heat symptoms will linger in the lung opening, hindering the function of lung joints. For example, a thin string pulse will appear in the right inch pulse, indicating that cold is in the lungs; Right inch pulse string qi stagnation indicates excessive sensitivity of lung nerves; Right inch stiffness indicates that the lungs have a lot of dirty metabolic products affecting their physiological functions due to prolonged insufficient oxygen supply; Right inch deficiency indicates lung weakness and poor self-cleaning ability, which prevents bacteria or viruses from entering the nasal cavity; Right inch deficiency indicates insufficient blood flow to the lungs; Due to various obstacles leading to a decline in lung function, the nasal opening remains in an inflamed state for a long time. So how do you know how nasal sensitivity comes about and how can it be cured?
This requires seeking treatment from a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner based on individual physical conditions, using suitable medicinal herbs. Some people can recover within a few weeks, while others may require a longer period of time, such as several months or years. The reason for this is not only whether the medicine prescribed by the physician is correct or not, but more importantly, these chronic diseases involve many medical techniques. For example, some people have lung qi deficiency and are unable to remove the cold evil, so they need to supplement for several months to remove the cold evil and further relieve it; Some people have dry lungs and only realize there is blood stasis inside after moistening them, which requires clearing the blood stasis to see the effect; Some people have a deficiency of qi and blood, and they take medicine to replenish qi and blood... Because there are many pathological mechanisms, sometimes it takes some time to clear them all at once.
